David Bowie caracterizado como Aladdin Sane uno de sus alter egos 

Aunque no pertenecen exactamente al rock alternativo por su influencia los voy a incluir en este género.

Glam Rock: Subgénero del Rock que comenzó a principios de los 70 en el que los artistas destacaban por excesivos: personalidades excéntricas, vestuario muy llamativo, maquillajes y peinados alocados, estética andrógina y mucha teatralidad. 

Referentes David Bowie del principio, T-Rex ...

Proto Punk: Evolución más agresiva del garaje Rock y paso intermedio a lo que luego seria el punk. También surgió sobre los años 70.

Referentes: The Stooges, MC5, The Velvet Underground, Iggy Pop.
